Well, what a week or so of sport and I'm not talking about the madness of that other game football, rather our fantastic cricket club in Strayfield Road has been enjoying the early rebirth of a new season.....
Firstly our juniors are back for Wednesday training sessions, it is great to see! For all new players and parents you are so welcome, for all returnees welcome back! Our junior players are the future of our club and we are so determined to ensure that they are coached well, remain safe and have fun. Our fixtures in the Herts Junior Cricket League for U9s and above are well underway. Thanks to all coaches and parents for getting our players to fixtures on time and making the games happen. It is amazing to watch our young people forming friendships and learning new skills via the game of cricket; also competing and winning (sometimes losing) as a team is priceless. Any questions or concerns please let me or Nick Munt know.
What else? Our Thursday nets for older juniors and adult members have been really well attended and again are such a positive sight. Our nets are a brilliant resource and we are fortunate to have them. I look forward to seeing good attendance throughout the season, we all need to practice..... Also If you know anyone who might like to turn an arm or have a hit, please invite them along, we are always looking for new members.
We have had some friendly fixtures, but the league season for our x2 adult league teams started yesterday. TC and Andy Mac lead our teams so well and it was great to see both teams meeting for a beer back at the club last night. Please get on the front foot and get your availability to Tom and Andy all summer. Our Sunday XI make a welcome return next Sunday. Can you play? If so please reach out to Dave Malleson...
Can I please remind all members that no one who is on management, captains, coaches our juniors, works on the ground etc etc is paid, we are all volunteers. Everything you see is voluntary and people find time, this has always been the case since 1886. Unsurprisingly we always need a bit more help, if you have any spare time please or see something that you could do, don't be shy and let me, any coach or management member know. Thank you in advance for making a difference......
Now, owing to a certain North London football club getting to a certain European Final, we have decided topostpone our 80s social night for two weeks until 15th June. Thanks to all those that have bought tickets, we hope that you can make the new date, all queries to Andy and Mandy MacMurdie please.
Finally new fixture cards are printed and available at the bar. If you are unable to get to the club please let me or Glen Halley know and we we will post one out to you. Also we know our website is in desperate need of an update, we are trying to make/ find the time. We will get there I promise......
So our season is now well underway, more from me to follow soon.......
I say it in every mail because it is true; NECC is as much your club as it is mine and all of us on Management. If you have any ideas, suggestions, observations or thoughts about anything re. our club then please let me know.
Many thanks for reading my mails and with very best wishes
James
