North Enfield Cricket Club | Annual Awards Criteria

Guidance for the end of season awards

This sets out to clarify and provide consistency when implementing applying the criteria for the end of season awards.
For clarity, these constitute:
  • 1st XI batting average and bowling average
  • 2nd XI batting average and bowling average
  • Sunday XI batting average and bowling average
  • Most overall club runs
  • Most overall club wickets
  • Most overall club catches
  • Captains 'player of the year' award
  • Frank Barwick Memorial Trophy
  • Dave Gandy Bowling Cup
  • Jack Smith Memorial Trophy
In defining what winning ‘the averages’ means - it is not the player who has scored the most runs or taken the most wickets
  • Batting average is the total number of runs they have scored divided by the number of times they have been out
  • Bowling average is the ratio of runs conceded per wickets taken
  • Common practice is to set a minimum number of runs scored/innings completed, overs bowled/wickets.
Qualifying measures are:
1st XI, 2nd XI (league) and Sunday XI (friendly) batting and bowling average
  • Batting – aligned to the current league qualification
  • Bowling – aligned to the current league qualification
 Note:
  1. should no one person achieve the qualification level it can be reduced at committees discretion
  2. a completed innings defined as being out or retired out).
  3. official cup matches that are specifically team related can be included otherwise they are classified as Club XI.
Most runs, most wickets, most catches
Qualifying matches being:

  • 1st and 2nd XI pre-season friendlies
  • Sunday and Club XI matches
Matches that are excluded are:
