Sunday Club XI v Holtwhites Trinibis II
North Enfield 181 - 9 39.4 (*only 10 men) D.Sanders 41, M.Wood 34, C.McKenna 30*
Holtwhites 128 - 9 (*only 10 men) D.Sanders 5 / 8, C.White 1 / 0, P.White 1 / 19
A first win of the season for the Sunday XI of 2012 - it only took ten games for Ken to achieve this! Not sure who won the toss but we batted first for the second week in a row, with Del really getting going early doors with a series of boundaries. We got to 60 odd without loss before he was out caught to Holtwhites skipper Owen Brewer, but the runs and extras kept ticking along with Malcolm and DVD (8). Moxy's innings lasted 4 balls before chipping to square leg, but Simon hung around for a little while, and Darren A (9) hit a couple of nice 4s before getting out. Pete Jnr played well for 19 before edging behind, but a late boundary-fest from Ken with some agricultural mows and the new signature Ken shot - a massive booming hack over cover (he has decided that he is now a batting all-rounder, having looked at his appalling bowling figures for the season but much better scores with the bat!) gave us the highest total of the season.
A stupendous Tea courtesy of Barbara White was taken. The cakes were still not up to the scorer's requirements. What can one do…?
Mally and Del opened the bowling, with Del having to be brought off after bowling the opening pair and number 3 bat inside 2 overs. Mally bowled a useful 8 overs 1 for 26, with only a couple of leg-side long-hops. Dazza (1 / 25 from 5) came on to replace Mally and fed the batsman's shot nicely with some leg-side full-tosses until a reorganisation of the field from tactics coach Mally slowed the run rate down. With 12 overs to go, Holtwhites only needed about 60 runs to win, so having managed to persuade the skipper that now was not a good time to bring himself on, Del was called back into the attack and took 2 wickets in an over, one bowled and another caught behind by Moxy (much to everyone's surprise). Del then took (eventually) a good slip catch off Charlie White to complete a good win, in a game played in lovely autumnal sunshine.
