London Colney II 197/6 (40) (O Munt 2-28, O Scott 1-11, J Scott 4 catches)
North Enfield II 98/10 (38.3) (I Tilakaratna 21, A Pearson 20, O Scott 16, O Munt 10, A Jones 6*)
Result: Lost by 99 runs (8 pts)
The afternoon began with the captain missing the ground entrance, driving down a dirt track at the post code location, eventually finding the correct turning and still being the only away player to arrive within 15 mins of the meet time. Unfortunately, the day didn't get much better, despite an encouraging opening 8 overs from the Oliver & Oliver new-ball partnership. A combination of never-ending left-handed batters, solid ball-striking and an unfortunate shoulder injury left a continually-revamped bowling strategy constantly one move behind the home side. The total would've been higher still had J Scott not single-handedly demonstrated the art of catching with no less than 4 well-taken grabs.
The attempted chase was within the team's capabilities if 3 or 4 batters had got themselves in, but quickly became a damage-limitation exercise at 13/5 - a display of how not to bat against naggingly-consistent opening bowling. The lower-order had little to do last season, and did themselves credit today by pulling the team through the majority of the overs to claim batting points. The highlight was a 22 partnership for A Jones and O Munt for the final wicket - giving the away side some cheer to end the day.
Catch of the Match: J Scott's "hang-time" mid-on effort which would've comfortably sailed over almost every other player
Champagne Moment: O Munt & A Jones almost batting out the overs for a well-earned 22 run partnership
Misplaced Delight of the Day: A Pearson taking the opportunity to exclaim "Buzzers!" as he ran through for a bye (having conceded none himself). Unfortunately, he fell lbw the next ball
