Sunday XI v Garbaldersham CC
Garbaldersham 191 / 8 (40.0) C.Gould 3 / 28, A.Wood 1/6, D.Malleson 1/25
North Enfield 192 / 3 (34.3) T.Coughlan 88*, G.Hughes 43
A second successive win for the Sunday XI bringing the season total to 3, making it thus far the most successful season since the current vice-captain was Captain.
Ken won the toss and decided to bowl, which pleased everyone on the hottest weekend of the year. Mally bowled a very economical opening spell of 7 overs, 1 for 11 but Ken found it harder going at the other end, with some massive full-tosses. Tom bowled a solid 6 overs for 32 but the singles kept coming and we were unable to take a couple of chances. Debutant Christian Gould bowled a fine spell, 8 overs, 3 for 28 which gave us an excellent chance to restrict the total to under 200. Alex W picked up his first wicket for North Enfield, and now has a better bowling average than the captain. Mally communicated his frustration fairly vocally at a ball that went straight up in the air and within 10 yards of 3 fielders, none of whom went to catch it.
Simon debuted with Tea, which was interesting for several reasons, one being he managed to spend 43 quid yet Ricketts and Malleson suffered through lack of bread, so Ricketts ate the vast majority of a jam roll straight out of the packet. You don’t know where he puts it…
DVD and Sir Garfield opened up, and G-Unit played some terrific shots including a six into the woods, an excellent 43 which put us well up with the run-rate. Tom steadily accumulated reaching 50 and played his way to a superb 88*. Gleno and Ricketts chipped in with double-figure scores, which gave us a comfortable win.
2nd XI v Totteridge Millhillians IV
Totteridge Millhillians 101 / 10 (30.3) J.Coningsby 5 / 27, D.Sanders 5 / 49
North Enfield 105 / 3 (29.0) A.Aziz 53*, A.Williams 24
A good result against a depleted Totteridge side but who played in good spirit. Jacko picked up 5 wickets for the second week in a row, with some unplayable swing. 31 points clear at the top of the league, which is excellent work.
1st XI v Hatfield Hyde
North Enfield 205 / 10 (50.5) Y.Ghayas 49, S.Ebrahim 38, R.White 29
Hatfield Hyde 208 / 7 (48.5) S.Ebrahim 6 / 69
This was possibly the debut of the Colonel for the 1st XI in league cricket, at the young age of 69. He and Illy to put on a last-wicket partnership of 42 which must have been fascinating cricket, and another not out! Illy bowled an incredible 22 overs on the hottest day of the year, and finished with a season-best 6 wickets. A close game which ended in defeat, but 17 points taken from it for SLB’s men.
