Well the summer has finally arrived and I just have a few updates that I want to share with you.
Firstly congratulations to our U11 and U13s for making it to the Herts League Finals Day on Sunday. Two firsts for our club and I'm so proud to be Chairman at this time!
Unsurprisingly the standard was high and both teams gave it their all. The day started with two semi finals and both teams fell at this hurdle. Not to worry, both teams are NECC winners and again my congratulations to all players who have played during the season, to all parents and to all our coaches and helpers for all efforts over the season.
One point that I want to re-raise. After many years Chris Mckenna is standing down as our Welfare Officer. Ken has been excellent in this vital role and we must find another volunteer for next season. The position is a must for the club and we need to start planning now to get the new recruit booked on a couple of courses (I promise nothing major!). Please can someone reply to me and put yourself forward, I would really appreciate it.......
I mentioned in my last mail that Steve Gillmore is planning a club social match, here are some more details from Steve
"We are organising a friendly inter club cricket evening on Friday 29th July and hope to get as many colts, parents and coaches to play. After the success of the recent impromptu 20/20 match, we have decided to give any parents of our colts another opportunity to show their children how the game should be played!
The plan is to firstly get a feel for availability of colts and parents of any of the age groups (U9, U11, U13) and we will then work out the format once we have confirmed numbers. We would like to get at least 24 confirmed and run a 8 a side tournament (in the colts format where you bat in pairs and lose runs for wickets) with mixed ages, but with a handicapping system so the younger kids can also participate (will be incrediball to save time and make it inclusive for all). I think we will have parent and kids together (TBC) but whether we play mixed age groups or join them up isn’t decided yet. I already have some adult forfeits that I have used in the past just to keep them on their toes.
The first challenge is to see who is about and then we can sort out the details. The primary goal is to get colts and parents up the club in a social context and get them playing some cricket with their kids. We will sort out a BBQ and make an evening of it."
What a good idea and again my thanks to Steve. Please if you haven't put your name forward, please do to [email protected].
Also a reminder that we have a club social for all club members hosted by our 1s on Saturday. Bar and BBQ will be in full flow and all club members and guests will be welcome!
I say it in every mail because it is true; NECC is as much your club as it is mine and all of us on Management. If you have any ideas, suggestions, observations or thoughts about anything re. our club then please let me know.
Many thanks for reading my mails and with very best wishes
James
