I want to start this mail highlighting another impressive feat by one of our senior colts who took a Hat Trick for our 1st XI over two matches! Ishan Tilakaratna took wickets with the 2nd and 3rd balls of his 7th over to finish the match against Metropolitan Police Bushey and then completed his hat trick with the first ball of his spell against Dunstable. Not the usual way of getting a Hat Trick and both matches were won. Batsmen normally make the news but it is nice to report when a bowler is successful. Well done Ishan!!
As you will have read in some of my recent mails we have recently made a once in a generation investment in a new roller. In truth we as a club have been putting off this difficult and expensive decision, but given the importance of a roller in delivering flat, consistently bouncing and a safe wickets, our old roller was just too much of a liability and we were having to get new parts made if things went wrong.
We as a committee sat down and carefully worked out how to pay the £8,500 needed to fund this vital piece of equipment.
We have already paid a deposit and one instalment and have one other instalment to pay at the end of June and a final balance to pay in September. While the club can contribute to some of the expense we have to raise some money ourselves. We have been successful recently in funding applications to pay for our nets, new covers, fire exit doors etc, but there are no pots for machinery. So to make up the shortfall we are
- Running a Grand Summer Draw with some superb prizes. Tickets are £5 a book and we please ask that you mention this to family, friends, work colleagues and neighbours. Please see me, Andy MacMurdie or any member of the committee or your captain or coach to buy books and request more to sell to people you know.
- For a donation of at least £100 we will engrave your name on a plaque that we will fix onto the new roller. We are expecting the machine to be trundling around Strayfield Road for 40 - 50 years so the plaque will be on display for many years to come. If you are able to contribute in this way please get in touch with me or Andy MacMurdie and we will be delighted to accept your donation for this really important cause.
Finally for now DVD is holding a World Cup sweep stake. The draw for teams will take place tomorrow evening during our Junior training session. Details as per the PDF link on the right of this mail. Good luck to all!
I say it in every mail because it is true; NECC is as much your club as it is mine and all of us on Management. If you have any ideas, suggestions, observations or thoughts about anything re. our club then please let me know.
Many thanks for reading my mails and with very best wishes
