It is with great sadness that I write to report the recent passing of a North Enfield Life Member and our friend Peter Johnson. Many of you will remember Peter smoking a pipe off the field with a pint of bitter in the other hand; on the pitch he bowled a lovely spinning ball. When I (as many others started playing senior cricket in the 3rd XI he was so welcoming and encouraging for us youngsters making the step up into adult cricket. He and the other senior pros of the time e.g. Woody, Meady, Barry Long, John Perry, Geoff Corgan, Tony Hemmings, Charlie Mann, Malcolm and Ralph not only showed us how to play better and adjust our games, but also how to play in the right sprit and enjoy our cricket. Personally I will always be grateful to Peter and the others for that.
I have written to Peter’s family to express our condolences as a club.
For information Peter’s remembrance service takes place on Friday at 12 noon. Address is
