I can absolutely confirm that behind the scenes planning is well and truly underway for the new season. Various people have been on courses, renewed qualifications and have met to plan for the 2017 season. It is all very exciting! So what news?
Both membership letters are in the process of being drafted and will be sent out soon. We are also reviewing our registration forms to ensure that we are up to date and covering all the things we need to.
As per previous offers if anyone wants to go on an umpiring or scoring course please let me know ASAP. The club is willing to pay, so please do ask family or friends as we could really do with a couple more umpires especially.
As you know pre-season work rota weekends are 1st / 2nd and 8th / 9th April. I urge all members from all sections to come and do your bit. We have so much to do before we are able to play the first adult and junior games. The first weekend is Natwest Workforce and on Saturday 8th April our President invites you to a President’s Working Lunch. We have caterers at lunchtime providing a choice of Lasagne, Salad & Garlic Bread or Chicken Curry & Rice, both followed by Cheese and biscuits. To be served from 2.30pm. Free to all attending work rota on a first come first served basis, lunch costs are on the President (thanks Richard!). We just ask that you buy your own drinks (maybe a Port or two!??) and leave a small gratuity for the Ladies’ catering.
One last appeal, we can always do with new members and players. Please do mention us at the school gates to friends and encourage juniors along on a Wednesday and please try and get a workmate / neighbour who used to play to come along for a Sunday or play in an evening game. Everyone is welcome.
Please note that our first Junior Wednesday session will be 19th April and will run to the 19th July. More details to follow from Nick Munt…..
One more date for the diary, Steve Gillmore is running an ‘Introduction to Cricket’ which is an excellent evening to get to grips with the game. Perfect for all mums, dads, family and friends who would like to get to know the difference between a ‘long on’ and what’s ‘over the wicket’. Date is the 12th May with time TBA.
Finally you might have noticed that our online shop is down. After some problems with orders and issues with their site, we have finally lost patience. We are looking into a new provider and look forward to announcing something soon.
I say it in every mail because it is true; NECC is as much your club as it is mine and all of us on Management. If you have any ideas, suggestions, observations or thoughts about anything re. our club then please let me know.
Many thanks for reading my mails and with very best wishes
James
